The expectancy-value theory of achievement performance and related decisions identifies the various factors that affect achievement levels. The Actiotope Model of Giftedness describes learning and educational resources necessary for high achievement. This study investigates the relationship between these categories of resources and achievement. As social gender norms have been shown to influence decisions in a range of contexts, including college majors, the influence of resources on conformity levels is also examined. We investigated these relationships amongst undergraduate university students from Australia (n = 976) using the Questionnaire of Educational and Learning Capitals (QELC) and Conformity to Feminine Norms-45 (CFNI-45) and Conformity to Masculine Norms-46 (CMNI-46). Results from structural equation modeling indicated that educational capital plays an important role in establishing learning capital, that in turn leads to decreased levels of conformity. This has implications when supporting high ability students, not just in terms of developing resources, but also regarding non-traditional postsecondary fields of study. Evaluations of gifted education in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are hampered by the lack of clear policy objectives as well as practical difficulties in obtaining data. Furthermore, it is unclear if the specific needs of gifted students are unique or shared across non-gifted students. In the current research, both gifted and non-gifted Saudi students ( n = 284) and their parents completed Saudi-language versions of the Student Educational and Learning Capitals Questionnaire and the Family Educational and Learning Capitals Questionnaire, respectively, to assess the availability of 11 educational and learning capitals. Additionally, parents reported the major challenges to their child’s learning and what they did to support their children. Rasch modeling was used to assess the measurement properties of the two instruments and to transform the raw scores into Rasch scores (logits). The results indicated that gifted students and their parents differed in their evaluations of economic and social educational capitals, as well as organismic, telic, and attentional learning capitals that support their learning success, with estimates of effect size ranging from small to large. However, the differences between non-gifted students and their parents are similar, showing that the challenges facing Saudi gifted students are shared more generally among non-gifted students. Despite a history dating from 1969, the current status of the Saudi gifted education environment is yet to be fully determined. Saudi gifted students and their parents were asked to complete Saudi-language versions of the Family Educational and Learning Capitals Questionnaire and the Student Educational and Learning Capitals Questionnaire to assess participant perceptions of the availability the 11 educational and learning capitals of the Actiotope Model of Giftedness. After transforming the responses into Rasch measures, matched paired comparisons of nearly 100 Saudi parents and their children were obtained. Our findings indicate that parents and their children differ in terms of their perceptions in the availability of four of the five educational capitals ( economic, infrastructural, didactic, and aspirational capital), and three of the five learning capitals ( attentional, actional and episodic capitals). We discuss the origins of both these differences and similarities before outlining the implications of our findings in terms of the effectiveness of the learning environment to support gifted education in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
